Form + Timber
Inside the Form + Timber workshop: makers at long benches under studio windows

Furniture · Portland · Since 2017

Furniture that will be inherited, not replaced.

We build in solid timber — white oak, black walnut, ash — with joinery from an era before glue had opinions. Every piece is made to order, signed, and meant to be repaired, refinished, and handed down.

Solid timber only

No veneer, no MDF, no shortcuts. If we ever laminate, we will say so in writing.

Joinery, not glue

Mortise and tenon, dovetails, draw-bored pins. Joints designed to be repaired, not replaced.

Finish you can touch

Hardwax oils and plant-based finishes. Food-safe, repairable at home, honest to the grain.

Antique hand planes on the wall rack and an open toolbox on the studio workbench

The Workshop

Six hands, three benches, no production line.

Every piece is built start-to-finish by one woodworker, who signs it inside the back panel where only the next generation will find it. Lead times are honest: we would rather tell you ten weeks than rush a cure.

How we work →

Commission something that lasts.

Custom work, catalog pieces, and everything in between — it starts with a conversation about the room and the life that happens in it.
