The Bespoke Commission

A bespoke garment is a collaboration between a body, a pattern, and six patient weeks. We accept twelve commissions a year — no more, whatever the request.

01

The Conversation

An hour at the atelier — or a video call, if Milan is far. We talk about where the garment will live: the occasions, the climates, the rooms. No sketches yet; no commitments.

02

The Draft

Fourteen measurements and a length of pattern paper. The first draft is cut in heavy calico and draped on the stand — the toile that will argue with the body, so the final garment never has to.

03

The Fittings

Three fittings in Milan, spaced a fortnight apart. Each one takes two hours and changes the pattern. We keep every toile; clients who return years later can trace their own history in calico.

04

The Making

Six weeks of hand work: canvassed fronts, pick-stitched seams, buttons cast to order. The maker signs the inner pocket with their initials — as they have for every commission since 2014.

After the Final Fitting

What clients write back

“The coat has been to three funerals, one wedding, and a board meeting that decided my company’s future. It has handled all three with the same discretion.”

H.K., commission 047

Milano · 2023

“Costanza argued me out of a double vent and into a single. She was right. Two years later I understand why, and I still can’t fully explain it.”

T.B., commission 052

London · 2024

“My wife found the maker’s initials in the pocket before I did. Now we argue about whose commission comes first this year.”

Commitment. A commission is a deposit of one third, payable after the first fitting — not before. We would rather earn the deposit than take it.

Timeline. Six weeks is the promise; October is the opening. If your wedding is in June, we begin in February, not June. We have said no to more commissions than we have accepted.

Alterations. Included for the first year, because bodies change and we would rather you wore it than framed it.

Commissions for the coming season open in October. Write to us with nothing more than an idea; the measurements come later.
